Apple Ditches Federal Environmental Standard

Ugh, really Apple?

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a long-time hardcore Apple product user. At one point I would have called myself an Apple Fanboy. But over the years, my enthusiasm has waned as their design mission consistently trumps their ethical mission. Ditching EPEAT (the federally supported environmental standard for consumer electronics) is just one more action out of long list of problems. On more than one occasion, I’ve even threatened to ditch Apple completely in favor of Linux and Android. And that’s still something I’m considered. But frankly, Linux still has a ways to go, and moreover, I am so entrenched in Apple products at this point, it will take a herculean effort (and probably money) to transition. So this is still a long term plan for me.

But really, how far is Apple willing to go? How far are we willing to let them go, as long as they continue to deliver the shiny?
